Every word you say, every thought and feeling you have and finally every action you take is an indication of level your awareness. Some irritating circumstance which you produced with your thoughts, feelings and actions must have caused you to question current level of your awareness. And you have become aware of current level of your awareness, which has already increased without you being aware. Now you want to know how to increase it even more.
It is easy. At this point you must have already examined the repetitive circumstances of your life. Most people define themselves through those circumstances they produce rather than examining to see what really caused them. Or worse, they blame others around them. Whatever you choose to do shows you level of your awareness only if you can see it. Seeing requires you to take responsibility of the circumstance and it usually hurts to do so when the circumstance is an unpleasant one.
Imagine an alcoholic man who always abuses his wife and kids. His alcoholism destroys his health, marriage and professional life. He divorces, loses his job and can only see his kids once a week. He is devastated and still unable to understand completely why his drinking habit is such a big deal to people. He wants to have a loving relationship with his kids and wife like his friends do but he is no longer capable to. He blames his family for not understanding him and every time he attempts to talk to them to get back together again he ends up arguing with them.
One day he has a massive car accident which leaves him paralysed. His family and friends support him until his discharge from the hospital. That is when he realizes that it was not people around him but himself that was troubling himself and his life. Only then he apologizes to them and begins making conscious effort to quit drinking as he is now at a higher level of awareness.
Our awareness depends upon and formed by our beliefs; our beliefs about ourselves, about others, about life. If you believe that you can never accomplish anything better than your father did, you cannot do so until the day you become aware of the belief that has been holding you back for that long. You can succeed beyond your imagination only after your awareness allows you to see how your limiting even wrong belief has been causing you to remain where you are in life.
